the kitchen is a new concept in cooking and dining in the heart of Amsterdam. It is a combination between a cooking workshop and a restaurant.
The idea is that you cook what you eat and you eat what you cook - you will be individually responsible for all parts of your meal, not just one element of the menu.
The menu changes everyday and varies depending on the season and the calendar. The Chef will help you, guide you and explain everything ... but he won’t make it for you !
the kitchen is focussed on sourcing local produces, in season and grown with respect. Cooking in the kitchen is an intimate affair with no more than 14 people in a session... everyone can be sure to get the Chef's attention.
No group booking compulsory!
You do not need to find 9 of your friends to come and do a session at the kitchen. Book from 1 person to 14.
We are not making chefs, we are making cooks
The format is designed for all skill levels, whether you are a foodie or cannot boil an egg you will get a lot out of the sessions; you will learn how to cook a new dish, pick up some tips along the way, meet people, get more confidence in your kitchen, have a great meal that you made yourself and had a lot of fun.
You do not need to be a chef to make a great meal.
Its about sharing our passion for food, encouraging people to try dishes they have never thought of before. Throughout the session, you will learn by doing, you will be guided in all areas, from ingredient to plate. The Chef will share his passion and ‘savoir’, but without stress. This is no Hells Kitchen.
The kitchen is the brainchild of Richard and Marta, a couple who met years ago in the corporate world. Marta, french, based in Paris and Richard, english, based in Amsterdam, would meet every weekend to share the best food that could be found in both cities.
When they decided to leave the corporate world behind, they settled together in Amsterdam and discovered a love of cooking together, enhancing the experience of the food they ate, but also having fun whilst doing it. In this period they also travelled extensively, and throughout their travels, they enjoyed cooking lessons in the heart of Mexico, or in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, meeting locals with a passion for food that gave them an insight into the local flavours and traditions.
Once back on european soil, they looked for more cooking experiences with inspirational chefs but found that, unless you want to take a full course, speak fluent dutch, or have 11 friends to join you ... it's going to be tough to find that unique, fun and delicious evening. So they created the kitchen - a place that you can pop in any day, join a cooking session, learn how to make some new dishes in a fun and easy environment, in a location that balances the aspiration of a professional kitchen and the comfort of cooking at home.
About our chefs
There are currently 8 different talented chefs at the kitchen who guide our guests through wonderful and interesting dinners, brunches and special sessions. From classical french,traditional italian, rustic dutch, fine dining, patisserie, cocktail making to lebanese ... every style is represented at the kitchen.
The chefs are all highly regarded in their field, and have between them either had their own restaurants (one with a michelin star) or worked in some of the most exciting kitchens and events around, including nomads, envy, ciel bleu, christophe, bordewijk and oud sluis.
Each menu is designed by the chef making it, so they can impart their passion for their food. We also work very closely with local suppliers to source the best ingredients for our guests to cook with.
